BONE BLOCK OPERATIONS

After extracting a tooth there is bone loss around the roots. It heals , but if they do not insert an implant into the missing tooth place, the bone starts to recede. After a decay or so, the bone level becomes much lower than in the other parts of the mouth. If there are more teeth missing the bone recession is bigger. If a patient is wearing a denture the bone loss is even bigger especially she wears a metal-based denture. For placing an implant into the bone we need a definite height and wideness of the bone. If it is week it cannot keep the implants in , or we can hurt important nerves and vessels which are laying in the bone. We are able to improve the quality of the bone with different methods.
1. SINUS LIFT OPERATION WITH USING ARTIFICIAL BONE GRAFTING MATERIAL
This is an operation with which we are able to reinforce the bone in the upper molar region. After opening the bottom wall of the sinus cavern, the surgeon puts in there a special granulated artificial bone. It is also possible to put in there the implants too at the same time. If the bone is even weaker in the upper molar region the patient needs a bigger operation to make the bone fit for implantation.
2. BONE BLOCK OPERATION
This operation has two types.
BONE BLOCK OPERATION WITH RETRO MOLAR BONE BLOCK
We do these operations at our clinic. There is an anaesthetist doctor who makes general anaesthesia for the patient. Csaba Dr Borbath and Professor Pifko are doing the operation together during which they take out bone fragments from the vertical part of the mandible and replace them to the horizontal part of the mandible . This operation usually works when the patient needs more bone at the bottom region. After the operation the patient stay at our clinic for 16 hours under observation.
BONE BLOCK OPERATION WITH BONE TAKEN OUT FROM THE HIP
This operation happens at Professor Pifko's oral surgical department at the University of Szeged. Csaba Dr Borbath and Professor Pifko makes the operation together. We take the patient there, and he has general anaesthesia . A traumatologist surgeon takes out bone fragments from the hip ( this will leave only a four centimetre long scar) and Dr Borbath and Professor Pifko place the bone fragments into the mandible and fix them with small titanium pins. After this the patient stays overnight at the clinic and after it continues his treatment at the Dentalcentre in Vasarhely. All three types of the bone augmentation operations heals well after about 8 days. Of course there is swelling and bruising right after the operation but there is not too much pain. Like any other operations this type of operation has its risks too. The wound can be opened, there can be some bleeding, there can be some local infection. All these things usually happen within the first five days. This is why we ask the patient to come every day to the Dentalcentre for check ups and this is why we are open twelve hours a day. After a bone block operation it is possible to insert the implants into the " new bone" after a four month healing period.
With these new surgical methods there is less and less patient who need to live their live with wearing a removable denture.
The adequate jawbone structure means that the given surface has to be entirely healthy and inflammation-free.

BUT! Due to modern methods nothing is lost, even in case of defective bone structures. Such circumstances can be found mostly in the upper jawbone. In the jawbone, the region above the teeth, there is the facial cavity. If the teeth get lost, the jaw-backbone begins to decline, and the bone structure grows so thin, that there is not enough room under the facial cavity, even for the shortest implant.
In such cases implantation can happen by lifting the basement of the facial cavity. We use own or artificial materials to replace bones.
